Tri-Mix

Alprostadil, Papaverine, and Phentolamine

trimix3Trimix is an injectable three-drug cocktail used to treat erectile dysfunction. The active ingredients in the mixture are usually alprostadil, papaverine, and phentolamine. The injection must be compounded by a pharmacy and administered via intracavernosal injection.

Just before sexual activity, using a medical applicator device, you apply the medication directly to the penis. Most men place the applicator near the base of the penis, press a button, and a little needle comes out and puts a little medication just under the skin. About 7 minutes later you will have a very firm erection that will last about 1-2 hours depending on the dose that your doctor has given you.

TriMix is especially useful when patients are unable to take PDE5 Inhibitors because they are taking nitrates, certain beta blockers, or experience severe side effects from the oral medications.

ED is a condition that affects 15-30 million male patients in the United States.  Tri Mix is not an FDA approved therapy. Tri-Mix injection does require a prescription from your physician and should be filled only by a pharmacy experienced in sterile compounding. Trimix is typically compounded by a pharmacy in a sterile environment and then frozen. The compound is stable for up to 6 months while stored frozen and for 1 month if stored refrigerated beginning at the time of manufacture.

Typical strength combinations of Tri-Mix Injection Solution are:

  • Papaverine HCl from 1.8 mg/ml to 30 mg/ml
  • Phentolamine Mesylate from 0.1 mg/ml to 5 mg/ml
  • Prostaglandin E1 from 1 ug/ml to 120 ug/ml
